Why "I Help Everyone" Is Hurting Your Business (And What to Say Instead)
I can’t tell you how many times I meet coaches who, when asked who they serve, say, “I can help everyone.”
The marketer in me cries on the inside when I hear that.
It’s not that you CAN’T help everyone. That’s not it at all.
When you say “I can help everyone”, the person you're talking to has nothing to relate to.
You want to say something where the person in front of you says, “Ohh, I need that!”
Start with this framework:
I [teach] [niche] to [the problem you solve] without [limiting belief] .
The brackets indicate a variable. Let’s look at each one.
[Teach] How are you guiding them?
The “I help” phrase got used really quickly, so we need to shift again.
You can swap “teach” with things like: built a system for, guide, developed a process, or even coach.
[Niche] Who are you helping?
This is why we can’t say everyone. You wouldn’t talk to a woman in her 30’s the same way you would to a woman in her 40’s. You could say High-Achieving Women, Corporate Women, etc. Let the person you’re speaking to know it’s for them!
[The Problem You Solve] What problem are you solving that they are willing to pay to have solved?
There are internal and external problems. We want to tap into the internal problems.
[Limiting Belief] What do they believe they need to do that is not true.
We all get preconceived ideas about what we need to do to accomplish things. Your clients are no different.
Let’s put it together:
I create systems so coaches and wellness practitioners can attract clients online, without losing their human touch.
I coach type-A women in deep stages of burnout to create habits that won’t decrease productivity.
I’ve developed a process for corporate women dreaming of becoming entrepreneurs to make their corporate exit without worrying about income.
Don’t these feel better?
Can you see someone saying: “ooh that’s me, tell me more!”
Try it out for yourself, see what feels natural to you.
